Journal of a British Sailor in the Caribbean, 1798-99

These types of writings are rare enough to find but to come across a 300+page manuscript is indeed cause for celebration. Aaron Thomas’ memoir includes pen sketches, financial records, and graveyard epitaths he copied while onshore. It is a fascinating read, with the original spelling and punctuation retained. The vessel on which he served, Lapwing, makes an appearance on pages 49-50 of this work. Volume 2 of the Naval History of Great Britain contains information on the contemporary activities in the Caribbean.
